Today we are celebrating the 1 year anniversary of nyc4nerds.com and since I already posted about some plans for 2014 I thought it would be fun to take a look at some rejected ideas.
1) Speed dating event.
In early January a friend of mine told me I should do a speed dating event for Valentines day. I actually considered it for a while but had to reject it. I seen how some guys at nerd event creep girls out by trying too hard and I would not want to get the blame for that. Thankfully some girls are up for it and know better know to take it seriously.
2) Making a group page for promoters
NYC 4 Nerds started out as a facebook group page for info about events. To this day people try to promote them selves on their and that is not what the group page was made for. Someone suggested that I make a group page for promoters. Since I am a blogger myself I know shameless promotion is needed to grow but why should I put effort into growing another group page just for others to benefit from it?
3) Spring/Summer Picnics
Once the weather gets warm everyone gets in the mood to do a pinic in a park. There are 3 big problems with that. 1 is food, who brings what? Sometimes people are too shy to bring anything or they go for the cheapest thing possible. Second problem is location, If you wanna do a big picnic outdoors you are gonna need a permit. 3rd problem is when it is a public event random people tend to show up. Let be clear, We love making new friends but some people show up to an event and do nothing which makes things awkward for everyone.
